How It Works

Acupuncture is the use of thin needles inserted at specific areas of the body and can be used for addressing and reducing pain. Acupuncture research shows that it signals the body to release its natural pain killers, such as endorphins, adenosine, oxytocin and norepinephrine.

Acupuncture addresses the cause of the pain- it reduces inflammation, reduces stress in the body, promotes recovery and increases circulation. Acupuncture and other modalities like cupping and gua sha, can be used to treat many different pain conditions. These may include muscle strains, muscle spasms, numbness, tingling, radiculopathy, ligament sprains, overuse injuries, neuralgias, and more. We can address both acute and chronic pain conditions.

Our Approach

At Statera Acupuncture and Wellness, our goal is to provide an integrative approach to treatment that includes patient involvement. It is important to understand how to decrease your specific pain and how to prevent pain from worsening. This may include therapeutic exercises, supplementation and lifestyle adjustments.

We complete a full intake and health history that includes muscle testing to see which areas of the body are inhibited or affected. Treatment may include manual acupuncture, dry needling, motor point/ trigger point needling, electrical acupuncture, cupping and gua sha.

  • This style of acupuncture uses stimulation of the needles to obtain a muscle twitch response to restore muscle function. It reduces muscle inhibition, reduces inflammation, and relaxes end points of the muscles.

  • Fire cupping is an ancient therapy used to increase circulation and blood flow to areas on the body. Heat is used to remove oxygen out of the cup and create suction on the muscle tissue.

  • Gua Sha, often referred to as “graston” or “scraping” is a Traditional Chinese Medicine manual therapy technique. With the use of an instrument, we are able to create friction to break up muscle adhesions in the muscle and tissue that is causing pain. It increases mobilization and range of motion.
